Become a musher

This tour is suitable for anyone who wants to try dog sledding but also learn more about huskies and spend some time with the dogs. As a tour participant, you drive your own dog sled in a more hilly terrain supervised by a guide. It’s good if you have some base fitness so you can help the dogs running up hill. You don’t need any prior experience from dog sledding to complete the tour.

A winter dream for anyone who wants to try dog sledding and learn more about the exciting life of sled dogs. The dog sled is driven in pairs – one rides, and one drives. After half the journey, there is an opportunity to switch places. After the tour, we are welcomed by a cozy fire and snacks at the kennel. Here, you can spend a bit more time with the dogs.

 

How it works

At the kennel, your group will be welcomed by your guide, and you’ll be provided with warm clothes, shoes, and gloves. You’ll meet the dogs and receive a detailed explanation of how to drive a dog sled. You’ll also help harness the dogs. Then, you’ll drive the dog sled in pairs – one rides, and one drives. After half the journey, you’ll have the opportunity to switch places. After the tour, we will be welcomed by a cozy fire and snacks at the kennel. Here, you’ll have the chance to spend a bit more time with the dogs.

Good to know

  • Dress warm for your husky tour. Adult-size warm clothing and shoes are available to borrow in sizes S-XXXL/37-48.
  • We have a very limited supply of children’s clothing. Please dress your child very warm.

  • When it’s very cold we have safety precautions in place. In temperatures below -18 c, we don’t allow children under 12 on the tours. In temperatures -28 c to -32 c, we alter all tours to 1,5 hours. Below -32 c, we cancel all tours.

 

For who?

  • You need to be 15 years old or older, 155 cm tall and weigh minimum 50 kg in order to drive your own sled
  • Children under 5 years are not allowed to participate on a long husky tour for safety reasons
  • Children under 10 years, or shorter than 120 cm, may participant on a tour sitting in the lap of an adult only. For that reason, only 1 child per sled (with 2 adults) is allowed. If you want to go with several young children, please contact us before you make a reservation.
  • Children ages 11–15 may be a passenger but may not drive the sled.
  • For safety reasons, we do not recommend a dogsledding tour if you are pregnant. We advise against participation on a dogsledding tour from around week 20 of pregnancy.
